Good Thursday to you. We have almost made it to yet another week of this quarantine and shelter-at-home lifestyle. Many segments of our daily lives have been interrupted and otherwise affected and there are still thousands of people who have been infected with this deadly virus. We salute the many people on the front lines who are providing medical care, supplies, household goods, transportation, food, and other necessities of life so that we can try to push forward as best we can. I hope that each and every one of you is healthy and safe and continues to remain such. And for those who may be experiencing issues I’m hoping that you bounce back real soon without any long-term effects.
While there are thousands who have been physically impacted by COVID-19, far more people have been fiscally impacted by COVID-19. Many Americans are now facing issues with maintaining their households, earning income, and managing debts. Most of you who know me know that I am passionate about protecting consumer rights. I do not have the ability to help every consumer with their issues but, fortunately, I am a member of the National Association of Consumer Advocates, a national group of consumer lawyers with a mission to help as many people as we can either directly or indirectly. We provide resources, information, and legal assistance to thousands of people across the United States and it’s territories. Three law firms within our organization devoted countless hours of time and energy to creating a great website of information and resources on protection for consumers during these challenging times. The website covers a number of areas of debt including but not limited to auto loans, mortgages, student loans, rent, and credit cards. Take a few minutes to browse the site for yourself and please share with others. This includes any religious groups, nonprofits, community organizations, and other groups in your area that seek to reach out to people and provide assistance in times like these.
After reviewing the materials on the website and thinking about your particular situation if you believe that your rights have been violated, reach out to me or another consumer lawyer. If you are outside of North Carolina I am unable to assist you but on the website is a link to the directory of the attorneys within the organization so that you may be able to consult with someone in your area.
In closing, I am looking forward to the day when we can return to semi-normal and turn the corner on what has become one of the most challenging periods in our country’s history. Hang in there and help each other as much as you can. Be safe, remain healthy, and best wishes always.
